It did, and then found a SECOND, unreported critical: prove a deposit, tag it "not a deposit", L1 skips the debit, withdrawal works. Harmless now, vault's already empty. https://t.co/5obI64sb9V

    People have been DMing me about this, so I'll clarify here. Context: Aztec Connect was a product that was wound down around 3 years ago. Most users withdrew their funds, but some funds were still sitting there ~$6m, likely from people who lost access to their wallets or never bothered to claim them. Last week, someone managed to steal ~$2m from those remaining funds, and now another ~$2m appears to have been taken. This is an old contract that Aztec Labs does not control, and it is NOT connected to Aztec Network or $AZTEC. The team has been building privacy products for the last 8 years, and Aztec Connect was one of those products, but it was wound down years ago. People are increasingly scraping old smart contracts to find vulnerabilities, so this risk applies broadly to legacy contracts that are no longer actively monitored, maintained, or battle-tested. Security is PoW now. Be safe out there. Godspeed 🫡

    Aztec Labs: The contract from which about $2 million was stolen is an old payment product deprecated in 2021, and the team has no control. Aztec Labs responded to the repeat theft, stating that the attacked contract is a Stage 2 Rollup version that was deprecated in 2021 and deactivated in 2022, an immutable contract. The team does not hold admin keys and cannot pause or upgrade it. Approximately $2 million was transferred from that contract. The Aztec Foundation added that this incident is unrelated to any smart contracts on the current network or the AZTEC ERC20 token, and is independent from the attack on the Aztec Connect product on June 14.

    We are investigating a potential exploit affecting a deprecated Aztec payments product from 2021. ~$2m was transferred from the immutable smart contract in transaction: https://t.co/7l4OcKQukc The deprecated product is an immutable stage 2 rollup that was sunset in 2022. Aztec Labs holds no admin keys or control over the system; it cannot be paused or upgraded by us. This is a separate incident from the exploit on the depreciated Aztec Connect product that occurred on June 14, 2026. We will share further updates in due course.
