Blockchain solved the problem of trust. But in doing so, it made almost every financial activity publicly visible. The next challenge isn't making blockchains more transparent. It's giving users control over what should remain private. That's why I find STRK20 on Starknet an interesting direction: privacy as part of the existing ecosystem, not a separate destination.

StarkWare launches Private KYC, verifying identity without exposing personal information. StarkWare has just announced a demo of the Private KYC feature on the Starknet network, allowing users to complete the KYC process without revealing all personal information. Instead of submitting a full passport or address, users only need to prove the required attributes such as being over 18 years old or having valid documents via zero-knowledge proof technology. Identity data is encrypted and stored in the user's own Starknet wallet, and the verifier only reads the result on-chain without ever seeing the raw data. This approach differs from Sam Altman's World ID in that users retain control over their information instead of handing it to an intermediary. The context of the product's launch also reflects a concerning reality: in the United States alone, more than 3,300 data breach incidents occurred in 2025, up 79% from five years ago, with an average loss of $4.4 million per incident.

According to Wu, Starknet development company StarkWare has released a Private KYC with STRK20 demo, exploring confidential on-chain identity verification on Starknet. The solution allows users to scan their passport with a phone and read the NFC chip, then encrypt the identity information and bind it to their Starknet account, and use zero-knowledge proofs to submit specific attributes to the blockchain, such as whether they are over 18 years old. Institutions can verify whether the account meets eligibility requirements without possessing the user's full identity data such as name, date of birth, nationality, or document number.
