"Someone had introduced me to Russell. At the time, he was interning at Tesla HQ. And I had a cocktail event that night, and then a redeye. So I was there to interview him for Neo Scholars, all dressed up for the event, and I'm there with my backpack.

And he asked "d'you want to go for a walk?" What I thought was a leisurely walk turned into a dusty, hour-long trail hike.

And Russell was grilling me the whole time. “What is your intention with this organization? What’s your vision? etc” At the end he said, “Alright, I’ll do the interview.” I said, “I’m out of time. We need to reschedule.”

We met a second time at Coho on Stanford’s campus. And this was for the actual interview. He finished the coding challenge I gave him in 10 or 15 minutes.

Then he said, “I have a question for you.” I said, “What do you mean?” He said, “I want to give you a coding interview.”

No one had ever done that before. He was like, “I’m going to give
